Corporate social responsibility disclosure towards firm value

Dien Ajeng Fauziah · Eko Ganis Sukoharsono · Erwin Saraswati

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2020

Read abstract

This research aims to investigate and analyze the effect of corporate social responsibility disclosure on firm value, either directly or indirectly, by involving innovation as a mediator. This study uses secondary data on manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for a period of four years from 2015 to 2018. The sample selection method uses the purposive sampling method with several criteria to produce 104 companies as the research sample so there are 416 observations. The analysis technique used is a simple and multiple linear regression analysis technique using the STATA 13 application as well as the Sobel Test for mediation tests. The results of this study provide empirical evidence that both in quality and quantity corporate social responsibility disclosure has an effect on increasing firm value. The results also show that corporate social responsibility disclosure cannot increase firm value through innovation due to a lack of research and development activity in most manufacturing companies because research and development activities require a long time and process as well as ineffective patent protection. Innovation has an insignificant effect on firm value due to the high cost of research and development can have an impact on large costs that reduce profits. However, innovation can be increased by corporate social responsibility disclosure, which means investing in corporate social responsibility disclosure can indirectly encourage the development of innovative product and process activities in the company. Innovation becomes a partial mediation variable so that innovation works partially in mediating between corporate social responsibility disclosure and firm value.

Milkiyas Tefera Ayele · Yuanqiong He

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2020

Read abstract

Top managers are recognized as important forces in fostering the spread of ethical spirits and responsible behaviors in organizations. The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of personal ethical values and demographics (age, gender, and education level) on top managers’ CSR perceptions in Ethiopia. A quantitative approach involving a structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 294 executive managers of four sectors (floriculture, food, textile, and banks). Multiple linear regressions were employed to analyze the data. The analysis revealed that while some personal demographics, i.e., age and educational level had no impact on Ethiopian managers’ CSR perception, gender was positively and significantly correlated with managers’ CSR perception. Additionally, the analysis indicated that managers’ personal moral values had significantly influenced Ethiopian managers’ CSR perception.

International Journal of Finance & Banking Studies · 2020

Read abstract

Corporate value is a quality measure that indicates the consistency and sustainability of a company. Good corporate value can only be attained if the company has consistent financial performance, and that value will be used by decision makers inside or outside the company as the guide before making action. Attaining good corporate value should need comprehensive strategies integrated with company operation. Among those strategies is non-financial activity or social responsibility. This research expects that the disclosure of social responsibility by the company will adorn corporate image and give good impact on profitability and corporate value. This research is aimed to examine the effect of social responsibility disclosure on profitability and corporate value. Data testing was conducted using robust regression test and applied on 1306 data of public companies that are listed at Indonesia Stock Exchange on period 2015-2018. Result of the test shows that social responsibility affects profitability and corporate value.

Read abstract

The purpose of this study is to construct a faculty sustainability reporting (SR) guideline to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A prior study found sustainable activity followed by voluntary disclosure increasing the trust from stakeholders. Faculty as a part of the university can also take their role to support the SDGs from their own sustainable activity. Based on that finding, to support the SDGs and increasing the trust from stakeholders, the Faculty may disclose their sustainable activity to a stand-alone report. Because the faculty is a different entity from the company, it is necessary to create its own SR guidelines. This study uses GRI Standard as the main reference to make the faculty SR guideline and compares the guideline with faculty abilities in daily operation. The results of this study found that not all the GRI Standard items relevant to faculty daily operation. There are 26 items that the faculty can do and can be disclosed from its daily operation.
