Different sources, separate measures

Crossref and OpenAlex citation counts are independent observations. We never combine them. Mendeley readers measure saves, not citations. Dimensions displays its own live badge.

Unknown values are not zero. Means use records with known counts, including explicit zeros. Partial coverage can understate totals.

Two different timelines

Publication-year charts group current lifetime citations by the year an article was published. OpenAlex annual citation history groups incoming citations by the citing work’s year. Recent years are incomplete, and the available history window may not sum to lifetime totals.

Observation time is not publication time

The latest saved observation is the newest source record in the collection; it does not mean every article was refreshed then. A completed import records a successful source job, while a failed attempt does not erase earlier data.

OpenAlex and Mendeley article metrics are eligible for refresh on article visits at most once per 24 hours. Import activity below records other refresh attempts. This page does not infer whether a background schedule is currently running.

Source access and availability can vary. No saved observation means data has not been recorded here, not that the source has no publications.

Record identity & provenance

Publications are deduplicated by normalized DOI. Accepted metadata is preserved; later sources can fill gaps. Publisher assignments are curated, not inferred from DOI prefixes. Source records and import logs are retained.

Date precision is preserved. Missing metadata is not evidence of absence, and a license alone does not establish open access. No Impact Factor, CiteScore or global ranking is claimed.

Partner submissions & OJS

Partners submit DOAJ articles XML for assigned journals. Validation creates a pending submission; only staff approval imports records. OJS API and OAI-PMH are independent metadata sources.

The OJS connector reads published metadata. Unpublished submissions and editorial workflow details are excluded.
