Investment Feasibility in the Framework of Implementation Cooperation in the Utilization of Regional Property

Lorasitaniajeng Sukamdani · Gaguk Apriyanto · Moh. Burhan

International Journal of Finance & Banking Studies · 2023

Read abstract

This study aims to analyze the feasibility of investment in the framework of implementing cooperation in the utilization of assets or goods owned by the local government using descriptive semi-qualitative methods. In conducting the analysis, researchers used the investment feasibility approach is the Net Present Value (NPV) method to measure the present value of the expected net cash flow of a project, Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is the discount rate that makes the NPV of the project zero, Profitability Index (PI) to measure the relationship between the present value of net cash flow and initial investment and Payback Period (PP) is the period of time required to recover the initial investment from net cash flow. In addition, in order to develop tourism potential, researchers use the Segmenting Targeting Positioning (STP) strategy, which is an approach used by companies to understand their markets better and develop effective marketing strategies. The results prove that the cooperation plan for the utilization of assets or goods owned by the local government with partners as investors is feasible because it produces additional net cash flow during the project with a positive present value, and the rate of return on the net value of cash flow during the project is greater than the BI Rate and the benefits received from tourism development are more profitable than the costs incurred during the project. In addition, the time span required for payback is shorter than the project period. As an effort to increase tourism revenue and visitors, the Segmenting Targeting Positioning strategy is used.

A Case Study of Green Energy Roofs in Taiwan Using Financial Analyses

Meng-Yi Liu · Dan Lin

International Journal of Finance & Banking Studies · 2021

Read abstract

As part of the low-carbon policy and development in Taiwan, the Bureau of Energy introduced the “Green Energy Roofs Project” in 2017, which encouraged homeowners to install green energy roofs. However, the incentives of homeowners and solar photovoltaic operators to participate in this Project were low. The aim of this study is to propose and evaluate alternative models for investing green energy roofs. The contributions of this study are that, first, we consider factors such as risk management schemes and crowdfunding that have not been considered in evaluating green energy roofs project. In addition, this study provides a solution to Taiwan government’s current dilemma about how to encourage homeowners to install green energy roofs. This study adopts five common investment appraisal methods (including payback period, discounted payback period, net present value, internal rate of return and profitability index) to evaluate four different models for investing green energy roofs. The results show that when homeowners are fully responsible for installation costs of green energy roofs with partial funds borrowed from banks and with consideration of risk management, the homeowners have better investment returns. Therefore, the Taiwan government could consider the alternative strategy proposed in this study for promoting green energy roofs so that the country can x`move a bigger step forward towards the goal of being nuclear-free.

Capital investment decisions of small and medium enterprises in Benin-City, Nigeria

Amadin Victor Idehen

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2021

Read abstract

The study examined the capital investment decision of small and medium enterprises ( SME’s) in Nigeria. The objective of the study is to determine if small and medium enterprises in Nigeria utilize investment techniques. The survey research method was employed to carry out the study. Data were elicited through the use of questionnaires and oral interviews. These data were analyzed and presented using a statistical technique such as tables and percentages. The result revealed that most small and medium enterprises in Nigeria utilized investment techniques in their investment decision. Based on the above findings, it was recommended that SMEs in Nigeria should be encouraged to employ the services of qualified professionals or someone who has knowledge on basic techniques for investment decisions, the government should organize frequent training for SMEs on financial and investment decisions.

Contingent capital and performance of hydroelectric energy projects in Kenya

Amolo Elvis Juma Amolo · Charles Mallans Rambo · Charles Misiko Wafula

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2020

Read abstract

The purpose of the study was to examine how contingent capital influences the performance of hydroelectric energy projects in Kenya. The study was underpinned on pragmatism paradigm which allows the use of a mixed-method approach and descriptive correlational survey research design. Structured questionnaires and interview guides were used for the collection of quantitative and qualitative data from a sample size of 94 participants out of a target population of 94 subjects. A validity test was done on the instruments and a coefficient of 0.775 obtained using the Content Validity Index while reliability involved pretesting of the instruments amongst the 10% of the participants and Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.781 obtained. The analysis was done using both descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation and inferential statistics of Correlation and Regression at a significance level of 0.05 with the aid of SPSS version 25 and thematic content analysis of qualitative data for triangulation. The hypothesis was tested using Simple linear regression and Pearson Correlation Coefficient models and the result was: H0: Contingent capital does not significantly influence the performance of hydroelectric energy projects in Kenya was rejected since P=0.000<0.05. Therefore, the study concluded that there is a significant influence of contingent capital on the performance of hydroelectric energy projects in Kenya. The study provides valuable knowledge on the effectiveness of contingent capital on the performance of hydroelectric energy projects for policy action and adoption by investors. It is recommended that Project management and policymakers should integrate Contingent capital to improve the performance of hydroelectric energy projects besides developing targeted policies for strengthening the implementation of contingent capital. Further research should be carried out on mechanisms of improving utilization of contingent capital in power projects in Kenya
