Read abstract

Malang City Hospital is one of the hospitals appointed by the Malang City government in handling Covid-19 patients. This study aims to analyze the effect of nurse engagement and affective commitment on nurse performance in the health sector through self-efficacy as a mediating variable. Data were taken from 102 nurses at the Malang City Hospital using the Structurals Equation Model analysis method using the Variances Based SEM approach or better known as Partial Least Square (PLS). The results of this study indicate that nurse engagement and affective commitment have no effect on nurse performance. Self-efficacy is able to mediate the effect of nurse engagement and affective commitment on nurse performance.

Islamic hospital nurse loyalty model: motivation, commitment and satisfaction

Herni Justiana Astuti · Suryo Budi Santoso

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2023

Read abstract

This paper aims to examine the effect of motivation, commitment, and satisfaction on nurse loyalty at Islamic Hospitals. The sampling technique uses a purposive method, where the requirement to be a sample is a nurse who has worked for one year. Based on this technique, a sample of 69 nurses was obtained with a response rate of 92%. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling with a partial least square approach, by two separate but sequentially related stages (outer and inner model). The results showed that extrinsic motivation can affect employee commitment and job satisfaction. Intrinsic Motivation can affect job satisfaction but does not affect employee commitment. Extrinsic and intrinsic motivation cannot directly influence nurse loyalty, nor can it be mediated by nurse commitment or job satisfaction. Nurses will be loyal to the hospital if intrinsic and extrinsic motivation is mediated by employee commitment and job satisfaction respectively.

Read abstract

Providing health education to patients is one of the competencies that nurses develop during training because of its critical role in managing lifestyle diseases. However, novice nurses’ ability to render health education once they are in the workplace is underreported. The study aimed to determine novice nurses' competence in giving patients health education. One hospital in the eThekwini district in KwaZulu Natal province of South Africa formed the setting of this study in which a quantitative, descriptive design was used. Hence, a questionnaire was utilized as a data-gathering tool among purposively sampled 125 nurses in supervisory roles. The data were statistically analyzed and presented in tables and figures. The results showed the respondents perceived the novice nurses as competent in planning and giving health education to patients. The novice nurses’ shortcoming was that less attention was paid to family involvement in giving health education and giving health education at the patient's level of understanding based on their educational level. The study contributes knowledge on the importance of the competence of novice nurses in giving health education as a strategy to tackle lifestyle diseases.
