Incoming citations to the selected publications, grouped by the year of the citing work. This is separate from lifetime citation totals grouped by the cited article’s publication year.

The publication filters above define which articles receive the citations. The citation-year range below only controls this chart and the incoming-citation comparison. Removing publication-year filters includes older articles’ incoming citations too.

Annual history available for 3 / 3 selected publications. Supported display window: 2017–2026; 2026 is incomplete. Within a successfully fetched ten-year window, omitted years mean zero. Farm-n-Pedia: Expert mobile agricultural knowledge-based system for Indian Farmers

Ashmean Kaur Sran · Sherrie Yi Komiak · Sabir Manzoor

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2021

Read abstract

Efficiency in farming productivity and optimum utilization of resources in the agriculture sector in developing countries is a challenge that can be addressed with technological advancement. There is also a strong need to work on the farming community’s engagement to make better farming decisions. This study aims to create an expert knowledge-based system (KBS) in a mobile application to help Indian farmers improve their agricultural practices and increase crop productivity. A prototype mobile application, ‘Farm-n-Pedia,’ is designed and used to fulfill the farmers’ informational and engagement needs. It provides a tool for agriculture management using a single platform. The expert KBS incorporates a crowdsourcing system as part of the knowledge base and interface design. The mobile application enables the users to access the worldwide information they want, get personalized expert guidance, interact with the local agrarian community, know about the latest farming techniques and technology, crowdsource data collection and increase agricultural productivity.

Exploring the use of technological innovations in agricultural farms: a case of South Africa

Sipho Makgopa

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2024

Read abstract

Agricultural farms play a crucial role in providing food security in South Africa and other parts of the world. These agricultural farms are faced with challenges such as stock theft, equipment theft and armed robberies. This paper aimed to explore the use of technological innovations on agricultural farms to detect and prevent crime. Complexity theory was adopted to achieve the aim of the paper. Qualitative research was adopted to achieve the research objective and in-depth interviews were conducted with farm managers in South Africa. Content analysis was used with the aid of Atlas.ti version 8 to analyse the primary data. The findings uncovered that technological innovation devices such as motion sensors, monitoring surveillance camera devices and drones are used on agricultural farms. Despite these devices' use, agricultural farms face security budget constraints. This paper makes a significant contribution by offering recommendations to key stakeholders and directions for future research on the topic.

Digital innovations in semi-arid agriculture: A case study of precision farming in Opsoek ladismith, Karoo

Steven Lububu · Michael Twum-Darko

International Journal of Business Ecosystem & Strategy · 2025

Read abstract

Agricultural production in semi-arid regions such as Opsoek, Ladismith Karoo faces numerous challenges, including water scarcity, low soil fertility and unpredictable weather patterns. Digital innovations, particularly precision farming and mobile extension systems have proven to be important tools in overcoming these challenges and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. This case study examines the adoption and impact of precision farming technologies and mobile support services among farmers in Opsoek. The research combines field observations, interviews with local farmers and analysis of data on the use of mobile extension services. The results show that precision agriculture tools, such as soil moisture sensors, GPS-based field mapping and automatic irrigation systems, have significantly improved resource management and crop yields. In addition, mobile extension services improved farmers’ access to timely information on weather forecasts, pest control and best farming practices, thereby strengthening decision-making processes and reducing production risks. Despite the obvious benefits, the study notes that barriers remain, such as limited digital literacy, high costs of technological inputs and inadequate mobile network coverage, which hinder wider adoption among smallholder farmers. The study concludes that targeted digital literacy training, government support for affordable technology access and improved rural network infrastructure are essential to fully realize the potential of digital innovation in semi-arid agriculture. This study contributes to the growing body of literature highlighting the transformative role of digital technologies in improving agricultural productivity and resilience in water-scarce areas and provides practical insights for policy makers, development practitioners and agricultural technology innovators.
