Boosting Resilience through Spiritual Well-being: COVID-19 Example

Elif Baykal

Bussecon Review of Social Sciences · 2020

Read abstract

Spiritual well-being is the affirmation of one’s life in a relation to external world, one’s ownself and a transcendental power like God. It reflects positive feelings, attitudes, and perceptions leading to a sense of identity, wholeness, peace, harmony, and purpose in life. In this study, it is predicted that individuals with high spiritual well-being will be more spiritually resistant during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is one of the most noteworthy periods when people need to be psychologically strong and resilient. In this study, resilience has been defined as the individual endurance against difficulties and the ability to bounce back and even get better. Hence we hypothesized that spiritual well-being of individuals will be effective on their resilience. We conducted our study in Turkey among adults older than 20 years old. We obtained 384 usable data and we analysed our date by using SPSS 20.0 program. Results confirmed the assumption of this study, regarding spiritual well-being/ resilience relationship.

Determinant of export diversification

Lukau Matezo Espoir

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2020

Read abstract

The main objective of this work is to identify the explanatory factors determining the diversification of exports in SADC countries during the period 1990-2018. We regress the indicator of export diversification, measured successively by the Herfindahl-Hirschman index on a set of explanatory variables. Using a next-generation panel data approach is applied, such as panel unit root, panel cointegration, fully modified OLS (FMOLS), and Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares (DOLS). The result of unit root tests for all these variables are stationary at their first difference and integrated of order one.  Our results show that there is a long-term relationship between export diversification and GDP, openness to trade, accumulation of human and physical capital, foreign direct investment. All of its variables are the main explanatory factors for the diversification of exports in SADC countries.

Technical Analysis To Determine Buying And Selling Signal In Stock Trade

Rommy Pramudya · Rommy Pramudya

International Journal of Finance & Banking Studies · 2020

Read abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine which indicators are more capable of showing more accurate sell and buy signals on the LQ45 index by using the oscillator indicator Moving Average Divergent Convergent (MACD), Bollinger Band, and Relative Strength Index (RSI). The results in this study indicate that the sell signal can be captured well by the Bollinger band and MACD indicators, but it cannot be captured properly by the RSI, the volume can be small or heading and are in the side ways, while the MACD plays a too slow role in capturing the signal buy compared to Bollinger bands and RSI. The use of a single indicator will never show a buy and sell signal that is really accurate, this is based on the results of research that shows the difference in timeliness in Bollinger, RSI and also MACD so that the combination of several types of indicators will be better compared to using single indicators. Although in statistics there are no significant differences, there are only differences in increment and improvement in the placement of existing values, but in this case, the order of this value is crucial for traders because it requires very high accuracy to determine the right decision in daily transactions.

Work-family conflict and career development on performance of married women employees

Ria Mardiana Yusuf · Hasnidar Hasnidar

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2020

Read abstract

This research aims to analyze the direct and indirect effect of work-family conflict on performance and career development of married women bank employees. Work-family conflict is measured by using the indicator of work affect to family and family affect to work while performance is measured using indicators assessments: quality of work,  punctuality, attitude, and effectiveness. Career development is measured by indicators of education, training, reward and punishment, family support, and rotation. All assessment is based on self-evaluations.   Purposive sampling is used of 38 married women employees working in the state-owned bank, and using path analysis of PLS (partial least square) as a statistical analysis measurement combining with qualitative analysis to describe the results of statistical analysis for each independent variable and its effects on the dependent variable. The result of this study showed that work-family conflict has a negative effect on performance and career development. But performance has an insignificant effect on career development.

The Influence of Fraud Risk Management on Fraud Occurrence in Kenyan listed Companies

Severinah Wanjiru Mwangi · James Ndegwa

International Journal of Finance & Banking Studies · 2020

Read abstract

This study sought to establish the influence of fraud risk management practices in regard to preventive, detective and corrective controls on the level of fraud occurrence on listed firms in Kenya. This is because limited research had been conducted in the context of listed firms in Kenya and limited attention paid on how corrective controls influences fraud occurrence. A causal research design was applied. Data was obtained from a sample of 275 senior managers by using structured questionnaires. The findings revealed that only preventive and corrective controls had a profound negative effect on the degree of fraud occurrence on listed companies in Kenya. Conversely, detective controls did not considerably reduce fraud occurrence on listed companies in Kenya. The key implication of the findings noted by this study is that the proper implication of the most effectual anti-fraud measures can only be realized when the management are committed to do so. Additionally, corrective controls must be seriously looked into as an effective strategy of curbing fraud since they indeed are instrumental in curbing fraud. Future studies should be extended to the public sector in regard to the government ministries and the distinctive partitions of the private sector such as the insurance, real estate, manufacturing, automobile sectors among others respectively. Moreover, future studies can explore how firm size in terms of asset size or employee size moderates the relationship between fraud risk management practices and the level of fraud occurrence.

Airline employees also carry the risk of losing their jobs in times of crisis that closely affect the aviation industry. Therefore, it is important to investigate the burnout syndrome experienced by airline workers in times of crisis. This study aims to evaluate the burnout syndrome of airlines. Findings show that airline flight crews who experienced high levels of burnout syndrome during normal periods experienced less burnout syndrome during crisis periods. It is understood that the reason for this situation is that they cling to their jobs more tightly against the risk of losing their jobs.
