Robert Onyango · Robert K.W. Egessa · Patrick Ojera

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2022

Read abstract

Knowledge management is becoming indispensable in organizations since it is a powerful weapon for achieving competitive advantage. However, there is still a dearth of literature for employees and managers in organizations to link their investments in knowledge management and the value the organization gets in terms of employee engagement. This study was designed to assess knowledge management and employee engagement in the hospitality industry in the North Rift region of Kenya. An explanatory research design was adopted with a target population of 580 employees from star-rated hotels in the North Rift region out of which a sample size of 234 respondents was picked. Data was collected using questionnaires and interviews and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics using SPSS version 25.0 for quantitative data and thematic analysis of interview data. From findings, knowledge management explained a 50.4 percent variation in employee engagement. A coefficient of .728 indicated that a unit change in knowledge management leads to .728 units of positive change in employee engagement. Knowledge management significantly affects employee engagement thus the rejection of the null hypothesis. The hospitality business should invest in proper employee knowledge-sharing initiatives to enhance employee competence and motivation, resulting in high levels of engagement. The finding of this study can help major stakeholders in the hospitality industry to strengthen knowledge management for employee engagement.

Elevating knowledge sharing and communication through Artificial Intelligence: An organizational perspective

Simangele Mkhize · Melanie Lourens

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2025

Read abstract

Knowledge-sharing is essential for organizations that seek to maximize collective intelligence, foster collaboration, and enhance employee relations. Effective communication accelerates the exchange of ideas, ensuring that knowledge is shared accurately within groups. Knowledge sharing and organizational communication are essential characteristics of any organization, and employees must support each other to survive internal organizational dynamics. The study aims to understand the relationship between knowledge sharing, organizational communication, and artificial intelligence (AI). The study examined how organizational communication strengthens knowledge sharing and how AI technologies enhance the connection. A systematic literature review analysis was conducted using the PRISMA flow diagram to explore the effect of communication strategies on knowledge sharing and identify how AI tools can streamline these processes. Data from databases such as Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Science Direct were accessed. The analysis indicated that incorporating AI technologies to improve knowledge sharing and organizational communication minimizes costs, increases employee productivity, streamlines workflows, provides faster information retrieval, and enhances decision-making. However, despite its possible benefits, incorporating AI in organizational communication strategies does not come without challenges. The study recommends how organizations can encourage employee knowledge sharing through communications and AI to improve employee relations and organizational performance. It is additionally essential to reflect on how AI can be brought in strategically to break the barriers around effective knowledge sharing and organizational communication. Sharing knowledge and communicating effectively across an organization is more critical than ever in today’s fast-paced business environment.

Realizing potential: a real option perspective on communities of practice in organizational transformation

Tz-Li Wang

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2024

Read abstract

This research aims to explore the recognized advantages of Communities of Practice (CoPs) in enhancing knowledge sharing and spurring organizational transformation. Despite their acknowledged importance, CoPs often receive inadequate attention or representation in numerous organizations, likely due to leaders' unfamiliarity or insufficient skills to manage such groups. This study introduces the "Real Option Perspective" as the recommended approach for top executives to understand and leverage CoPs. Initially, it clarifies the concepts of CoPs and the Real Option Perspective, highlighting their significance. These concepts then lay the groundwork for developing a management model for CoPs. The proposed management trajectory for CoPs involves five phases: Investment in CoPs, Recognition of Stagnation, Re-engagement with CoPs, Transition of Value, and finally, Dissolution and Feedback. This research seeks to expand the applicability of the Real Options framework in managing CoPs, providing leaders with strategic insights to fully realize the potential of CoPs in line with organizational objectives.
