Prabowo Hadi Asmoro · Erwin Saraswati · Zaki Baridwan

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2022

Read abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of auditor rotation, audit fees, audit tenure, and professional skepticism on audit quality. The data collection method was carried out on 370 auditors who worked at the big 10 public accounting firms (KAP). The research data was in the form of a Likert scale questionnaire which was collected and analyzed using SPSS for windows ver. 22. The results of this study indicated that each independent variable had a simultaneous effect on audit quality. The auditor rotation variable significantly affected audit quality with an antagonistic relationship direction, so the first hypothesis was accepted. The audit fee variable had no significant effect on audit quality. The audit tenure variable had no significant effect on audit quality. The professional skepticism variable had a significant effect on audit quality. The professional skepticism variable had the highest beta coefficient among other variables, so the professional skepticism variable had the strongest and simultaneous effect on audit quality.

Read abstract

The quality of earnings indicates the current or future capability of the company to support the decisions made by managing board and other stakeholders. This research have to goal to examine the determinant of earnings quality in Indonesia, including: IFRS convergence, accounting disclosures, and audit committees. Data were acquired from official website in period of 2016-2018 and number of data was 212 observation data. Method of analysis involved regression test and classical assumption test. Result of research showed that the audit committee had a positive effect on earnings quality, while the convergence of IFRS and accounting disclosure cannot affect earnings quality. Research model was tested using control variables, respectively leverage, liquidity and company size. The test found that leverage is the only control variable that affects earnings quality. Information in financial statements is not the most important information to investors. Audit committee and creditor contribution play more important role in decisions regarding earnings quality.

A clean audit and service delivery comparative study of two municipalities in Mpumalanga province in South Africa

Tarisai Fritz Rukuni · Tafadzwa Clementine Maramura · Marble Mampa

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2022

Read abstract

In recent years, most South African (SA) municipalities still need to produce clean audits. In 2018 and 2019, most municipalities in SA needed better-quality financial statements and performance reports. Misrepresentation of financial statements in audit reports is linked to inadequate governance, misappropriation of public funds and poor public service delivery. It is upon this background that this study aimed to: (i) assess perceptions of municipality middle management employees on factors affecting auditing, (ii) evaluate the differences in perceptions among municipality middle management employees on factors affecting auditing, (iii) measure the effect of factors affecting auditing on overall clean audit and (iv) establish the effect of clean audit on service delivery at two municipalities in Mpumalanga province. Using a structured questionnaire, a quantitative descriptive approach methodology was employed to collect data from a minimum sample of 294 employees in the middle management category working within the accounting and finance department at two municipalities in Mpumalanga province, SA. SPSS v28 was used to conduct descriptive and multivariate analyses, including mean, analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation, and regression analysis. Results indicated that employees from the clean audit municipality had positive perceptions of factors affecting clean audit, while employees from the municipality with an unclean audit had negative perceptions. It was also concluded that factors affecting auditing had a statistically significant positive effect on clean audits. The findings in this study led to significant implications for theory and practice.

The impact of audit committee characteristics on Saudi bank performance

Omar Habtoor

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2022

Read abstract

This paper examines the impact of audit committee characteristics on the performance of Saudi listed banks. Data are collected from the annual reports of Saudi listed banks from 2010 to 2018. To test hypotheses, this study applies the random effects model as the main method of analysis, while the ordinary least square (OLS), the feasible generalized least squares (FGLS), and the panel-corrected standard errors (PCSE) methods are used for robustness check and additional analysis. The empirical results indicate a significant positive effect of audit committee independence on all measures of bank performance (ROA, ROE, Tobin’s Q). The empirical results of this study also provide important implications for regulatory bodies and market participants in Saudi Arabia and developing countries to understand the actual role of different attributes of the audit committees on firm performance.

Effects of Emotional Intelligence on the Relationship Between Individual and Contextual Factors on the Quality of Internal Auditing in Federal Educational Institutions in Brazil

Cristiane Silva Moura · Joshua Onome Imoniana · Edicreia Santos · Luiz Miguel Renda Santos

International Journal of Finance & Banking Studies · 2022

Read abstract

This research investigated the effects of individual and contextual factors on the quality of internal audit moderated by emotional intelligence. The research was operationalized from a research instrument consisting of 39 questions, answered by 93 internal auditors from Federal Educational Institutions in Brazil. Descriptive statistics and Structural Equation Modeling were applied. Results showed that individual factors positively and significantly affect the quality of the audit. The work resources, although considered important, did not influence the quality of the audit, unlike the contextual factor of time budget pressure, which affects it positively and significantly. Regarding the moderation of emotional intelligence in individual factors and contextual factors, this was not supported. Thus, concerning the originality, research on the influence of emotional intelligence on the results of the work of the internal auditor is recent in the literatures, this study therefore, boosts the ex ante sources and also support the regulating bodies and practitioners.  Finally, as a suggestion for future research, it is recommended that the studies reach the population not investigated in this study, being internal auditors from other sectors of the economy, external auditors or even auditors from the private sector.

International Journal of Research in Business and Social Science · 2022

Read abstract

The objective of the paper is to examine determinants of the extent of usage of accounting information by the Public Accounts Committee in Tanzania public corporations moderated by effective communication. This study's guiding theories are an agency, accounting information usefulness, and communication. The study used a positivist philosophy, deductive approach, and cross-sectional survey design. The researcher used quantitative data analysis focused on 110 questionnaires made by PAC members and nonmembers. The Partial Least Square –Structural Equation Modeling [PLS-SEM] was used to support multivariate statistical analysis. The study reported a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.584, implying that trust in accounting information, perception of quality of accounting information, knowledge of accounting information, and effective communication moderated by effective communication explain a 58.4% variation in the extent of usage of accounting information. The study results showed that trust in accounting information and knowledge of accounting information has a statistically significant positive impact on the extent of use of accounting information. The perception of the quality of accounting information and effective communication had a statistically insignificant positive effect on the extent of accounting information usage. Besides, the study results confirmed the absence of moderating effects of effective communication of accounting information on the relationships between determinants of accounting information usage and the extent of use of accounting information.
