The aim of this study was to examine the effect of gender diversity on the financial performance of insurance firms in Kenya. The study analyzed data from the 55 insurance firms licensed by the Insurance Regularity Authority (IRA) in Kenya. Gender diversity was operationalized by the number of female directors serving on the boards of insurance firms operating in Kenya. Primary data was collected from a sample of 412 board directors, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), Chief Finance Officers (CFOs), Audit Committee members (AUDIND) and Internal Auditorsusing a questionnaire instrument while secondary data was retrieved from audited financial reports of the year 2017. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Firm performance was measured by the two accounting-based measures Return On Assets (ROA) and Return On Equity (ROE). The findings from the regression analysis indicate that gender diversity significantly and positively affects the financial performance of insurance firms in Kenya.

The research objectives of this study were two. The first one was to determine the influence of idealizing influence on employee job performance. The second objective of the study was to determine if employee work value congruence moderated the relationship between transformational leadership style and employee job performance. This study adopted the positivism research philosophy and correlation research design. The target population of the study was 676 lower-level managers from 52 insurance companies operating in Kenya as of 2017. A sample size of 245 was drawn using a stratified random sampling technique and systematic sampling. 245 questionnaires were distributed out of which 211 were completed and returned representing a response rate of 86% which was deemed as adequate for a correlation research design. The analysis of variance was used to test the hypothesis. The study concluded that idealized influence significantly predicted employee job performance. In addition, the study inferred that employee work value congruence had a significant moderating effect on the relationship between transformational leadership and employee job performance among lower-level managers in the Insurance sector in Kenya. The study recommended that leaders should observe values that are congruent with that of their organization and socialize their employees on the same so that there is enhanced transformational leadership effectiveness.

Parastatals continue to experience difficulties in trying to achieve employee engagement. Consequently, governments have transitioned to the transformational leadership style to effectively achieve employee engagement. Nevertheless, it is still ambiguous whether the institution of transformational leadership style dimensions has boosted employee engagement levels in parastatals in Kenya. The objective of the study was to investigate the influence of idealized influence on employee engagement in parastatals in the energy sector in Kenya. Also, the study sought to determine the moderating influence of employee motivation on the relationship between idealized influence and employee engagement. This study targeted the 10 parastatals within the energy sector in Kenya with a population of 315 middle-level managers. The study adopted a positivist research philosophy to examine how idealized influence influences employee engagement and data were collected using structured questionnaires. A correlational research design was conducted with the purpose of determining the strength of the relationship between parameters of idealized influence and employee engagement in parastatals in the energy sector in Kenya. The findings showed that employee engagement has a statistical significant relationship with charisma, r(166) = 0.590, p < 0.01; ethical leadership, r(165) = 0.553, p < 0.01; teamwork, r(166) = 0.531, p < 0.01. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that employee motivation positively and significantly moderates the relationship between idealized influence and employee engagement, R2= 0.405, F(2, 159) = 54.100, p <0.05, ? = 0.225, p < 0.05. The study concluded that charisma, ethical leadership, teamwork, and employee motivation positively enhance employee engagement.

This study examined the influence of supportive and participative path-goal leadership styles, and the moderating role of task structure on employee performance of coffee trading companies in Kenya. The study was guided by the positivism philosophy and used a descriptive correlational research design. The population comprised 180 senior managers of coffee trading companies in Kenya, and a sample size of 139 was determined using stratified random sampling. Primary data was collected using questionnaires. The response rate was 84%. The descriptive statistics were means and standard deviations while the inferential analysis included factor analysis, correlational analysis, chi-square, and regression analysis. Results of multiple linear regression analysis revealed that supportive leadership style did not significantly predict employee performance, R2= 0.001, F(1, 110) = 0.118, p? .05, ? = -0.040, p ? .05 but that participative leadership style significantly predicted employee performance, R2= 0.865, F(1, 115) = 735.111, p ?.05, ? = 0.943, p?05. Task structure was found to moderate the relationship between path-goal leadership styles and employee performance, R2= 0.094, F(5, 101) = 6.92, p ?.05, ? = 0.208, p? .05. The study recommends that leaders of coffee trading companies should apply a participative leadership style with their employees with constant communication and consultation in order to achieve optimal performance.

The study sought to determine the influence of human resource planning on firm performance of firms listed in the Nairobi Securities Exchange in Kenya. The study was anchored on human capital theory and shareholder value maximization theory. The research design used was a cross-sectional survey while the study population constituted all the 68 listed firms at the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE) as in May 2017. The target population included the head of human resources and finance directors in all the listed firms. The sample size comprised of 136 respondents, and data was collected through structured questionnaires to meet the objectives of the study. Responses were tabulated, coded, and processed by the use of a computer Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) to analyze the data. Both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were used to analyze the data. To test hypotheses, a simple linear model was used to test significance between the independent and dependent variable. The study findings revealed that the relationship between human resource planning and firm performance was positive and statistically significant and hence rejected the null hypothesis. The study concluded that the type and strategy of the firm, succession planning, matching skills with jobs and skills inventory are human resource planning indicators influencing the performance of firms listed in the NSE. It is therefore recommended that firms should continue to practice and maintain adequate human resource planning as it plays a fundamental role in achieving the objectives of the organizations.

The study analyzed whether family influence, gender, and entrepreneurial education would influence vocational students’ desire to become entrepreneurs. A survey was conducted in 6 vocational schools in Tasikmalaya, West Java, involving 246 vocational students. Using multiple regression analysis, findings show that entrepreneurial education has the highest influence (57.5%) shaping entrepreneurial intention among vocational students, while gender account for 30% influence on students’ entrepreneurial intention. Male and female students believed that they must be given the same opportunities for entrepreneurship, yet there are feminine and masculine attributes that differentiate successful entrepreneurial plans between genders. Lastly, findings show that family background has the least influence (16%) on entrepreneurial intentions. Respondents disclosed that there are many choices open to them aside from being entrepreneurs, and they would opt for this choice instead of following their parents. Nevertheless, they believe in family support through advice and access to capital. Implications for research, policy, and practice are discussed. This study has shown evidence that entrepreneurship can be a solution to Indonesia’s high unemployment problem for young vocational students, but this entails better entrepreneurial education, the provision of gender-equal opportunities for males and female students, and enhanced family support for entrepreneurial ventures.

The banking sector in Kosovo continues to have a high level of sustainability and financial stability. Two substantial components for the stability of the banking system appear to be liquidity and liquidity risk. The purpose of this paper is to analyze liquidity management in Kosovo's commercial banks through liquidity risk indicators from 2008 to 2017. By comparing the methodology of the data presented, the study will assess the state of management of the liquidity risk of commercial banks. From 2008 until now, commercial banks in Kosovo have had liquidity reserves at a level higher than the level required by CBK, which means that exposure to liquidity risk was minimal.

A logistic regression model is has also become a popular model because of its ability to predict, classify and draw relationships between a dichotomous dependent variable and dependent variables. On the other hand, the R programming language has become a popular language for building and implementing predictive analytics models. In this paper, we apply a logistic regression model in the R environment in order to examine whether daily trading volume at the Botswana Stock Exchange influence daily stock market movement. Specifically, we use a logistic regression model to find the relationship between daily stock movement and the trading volumes experienced in the recent five previous trading days. Our results show that only the trading volume for the third previous day influence current stock market index movement. Overall, trading volumes of the past five days were found not have an impact on today’s stock market movement. The results can be used as a basis for building a predictive model that utilizes trading as a predictor of stock market movement.

Price-Earning Ratio or P/E Multiple is a widely used, straightforward investment assessment tool in developed countries. However, the method has not been utilized as much in stock market performance analysis in developing countries such as the Philippines. Using the top ten universal banks in the country, this paper utilized Price-Earnings Ratio [PER] as valuation tool and dependent variable, and sought to determine its value drivers. Used as independent variables are macroeconomic variables gross domestic product [GDP] growth rate, inflation rate, annual interest rate; stock market index Philippine Stock Exchange [PSEi]; and firm-specific variables return on equity [ROE], growth rate of ROE, growth rate of earnings per share, dividend payout ratio [DPO, growth rate of income, and price-book value [PBV] ratio. Results showed that among the independent variables, ROE, PBV ratio, and PSE index are statistically significant. The model’s (R2) is 63.7%, which is a fairly good fit.

This study attempted to establish the relationship between vendor characteristics and relationship quality on consumer B2B E-commerce in Yemen. E-commerce is gaining a lot of attention, especially in the Arabian world, as such we formulated and tested a model to explain B2C user repurchase intentions from the perspective of relationship quality. The model was empirically tested through a survey conducted in Yemen. Results showed that online relationship quality and perceived website usability positively impacted customer repurchase intention. Moreover, online relationship quality was positively influenced by perceived vendor expertise in order fulfillment, perceived vendor reputation, and perceived website usability. Trust in vendor behavior predominantly influenced online relationship quality and subsequent purchase intention. Implications of these findings are discussed.

This study was aimed to prove the research hypothesis that there are effects of financial ratios, which consist of profitability, leverage, and liquidity on the financial statements fraud risk, and the quality of auditors are able to moderate the relationship between financial ratios to financial statements fraud. This study uses a population of manufacturing companies that publish their financial statements on the Indonesian Stock Exchange in 2016-2017 will also be summarized and inferred. This study uses purposive sampling so that the study sample amounted to 275 firm years. The dependent variable uses the financial statements fraud risk with the proxy Dechow F-score. The independent variable in this study consisted of profitability with ROA ratio, leverage using the calculation of the ratio of total liabilities to total assets, and liquidity using the calculation of the ratio of total current assets to current liabilities. The moderating variable in this study is auditor quality as a moderating variable with a dummy variable. The Hypothesis test conducted is using moderated regression analysis (MRA). The results of this study indicate that the financial statements fraud risk is influenced by financial liquidity ratios, while financial ratios of profitability and leverage have not been proven to affect financial report fraud. This study provides a contribution by providing evidence that the quality of auditors can suppress fraudulent actions on financial statements with low profitability. This research provides information to regulators to pay more attention to companies that experience liquidity problems, and become input for regulators to make rules that improve the quality of auditors.

The term high-tech, covering the high-tech industry and the information-intensive service sector, is based on advanced scientific and technological expertise that requires science, technology, and innovation (STI), and is based on Research & Development expenditure. Sectoral, product and patent approaches are used for classification by OECD and European Union. Literature review on high-tech show that countries focusing on Research and Development Expenditures and new patents have succeeded in increasing their high-tech exports as well. Turkey is one of the countries where the levels of high-tech export is not at the desired levels yet therefore the government must give incentives for Research and Development expenditures and new patents for innovation, as high-tech export affects GDP growth positively.
